Who is Axel Scheffler

Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany and discovered his talent for art while at school. It wasn’t until he won a drawing competition and received a purple cow as a prize that he considered a career in illustration. He moved to England in 1982 to study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art and eventually settled in London. Axel’s career took off when he was chosen as the illustrator for Julia Donaldson’s first picture book, A Squash and a Squeeze, leading to a successful partnership.
