Biography Hilari Bell

In terms of my writing journey, I consider myself a symbol of persistence. The first novel I sold, Songs of Power, was actually my fifth novel. At the time of its sale, I was already working on my thirteenth novel. The novels that followed, Navohar and A Matter of Profit, were numbers twelve and nine respectively. The Goblin Wood was my sixth novel, and the first Sorahb book, Flame (later retitled Farsala: Fall of a Kingdom), will be my fifteenth. As for my reviews, I must admit that I haven’t been active on Goodreads in recent years, but I plan to start reviewing again. As a writer, I tend to read with a critical eye and often notice technical issues in books. Any time a book doesn’t work for me, I can’t help but analyze it from a writer’s perspective. So, I apologize in advance for any technical critiques my fellow writers may receive.

In terms of my personal life, I was born in Denver in 1958 and I am currently single, living with my mother, brother, and sister-in-law. I used to work as a part-time reference librarian at a mid-sized public library, but in 2005, I was able to achieve my dream of becoming a full-time writer. The transition from librarian to writer has been quite an adjustment, as I often find myself instinctively encouraging people to borrow books from the library rather than purchase them.

Outside of writing, I enjoy board and fantasy gaming, both tabletop and live. However, my favorite pastime is the luxurious form of camping that my mother and I practice. We have a pop-up trailer equipped with modern amenities, allowing us to relax and indulge in reading and hiking without the burden of unnecessary work. This is the only time I can truly dedicate myself to reading, as there’s no such thing as “enough” when it comes to books.
