Naomi Novik has been captivated by fantasy literature since she was just six years old, when she first delved into the world of The Lord of the Rings. Her passion for history, particularly the Napoleonic era, and her love for the works of Patrick O’Brian and Jane Austen, have greatly influenced her writing. She pursued English literature at Brown University and continued her studies in computer science at Columbia University before finding her place in the design and development of the computer game Neverwinter Nights: Shadow of Undrentide. During a short stay in Edmonton, Canada, she discovered her true calling in writing and upon returning to New York, decided to pursue a career in novels.
